Silly Chile: Over 30 Years of Heat, Flavor, and Small-Town Heart

Founded more than three decades ago in the charming mountain town of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Silly Chile was born from a simple vision: fill a need for bold, flavorful hot sauces and spices in a community that loves them. Jan and Mel Shipley spotted that opportunity and turned it into a beloved local institution.

My wife Andrea and I first stepped into Silly Chile during our honeymoon coming from nearby Bentonville 27 years ago. One taste, one look around the shelves bursting with fiery treasures, and I knew—this quirky, passionate little shop would play a role in our future.

We spent years traveling the world with the military, collecting flavors and inspiration along the way. When the end of COVID brought us to a decision, we reflected on everything we'd experienced and decided to return to the Ozarks we love. We opened a clothing and candle shop in town first, but fate had other plans.

One conversation with the Shipleys changed everything. Five years ago, we proudly purchased Silly Chile and dove in headfirst. We digitized the product lineup, expanded our offerings, and started crafting many of our own unique sauces, seasonings, and goodies right here in Eureka Springs.

Since then, we've grown steadily—thanks to loyal locals, passionate heat seekers, and visitors who discover us on Spring Street. We're still family-owned, still making hot sauce magic, and still counting the years of bringing smiles (and a little sweat) to faces across Arkansas and beyond.

Come visit us at 87 Spring St in Eureka Springs or 104 East Main St in Branson Missouri, or shop online—we're just getting started!
